Interventions
At Greenfields Primary School, we offer a range of different intervention groups to support our children across all four areas of SEND.
Interventions that support physical development needs:
- Touch typing
Touch typing supports children to be able to type without having to find the keys.
- Pegs to Paper
Pegs to paper develops children's fine motor skills to support their handwriting and letter formation.
- DEXYs
DEXYs is a daily intervention which focuses on the development of children's fine and gross motor skills.
Interventions that support communication and interaction needs:
- Talkboost
- Contrastive pairs
- Specific speech and language advised interventions.
Interventions that support cognition and learning needs:
- SNIP
This programme is aimed at increasing reading and spelling of primary high frequency words by grouping them based on how they look visually. Multi-sensory activities are then used to support the reading and spelling of these words.
- IDL
The IDL Literacy intervention software is a speaking-computer based multi-sensory system which aims to increase reading and spelling ages.
- Memory games
Memory games support children's visual and auditory processing and memory skills.
- Beat Dyslexia
The Beat Dyslexia series is a step-by-step multi-sensory literacy programme for all pupils struggling to acquire literacy skills, especially those with dyslexia. It takes pupils from the earliest stages of letter recognition through to full literacy.
- Precision teaching
Precision teaching is an over-learning teaching strategy which focuses on learning and remembering targeted words.
- Phonics reading programme
Interventions that support social, emotional and mental health needs:
- Cooking and craft
- Sensory garden group
- Woodland outdoor learning
- Messy play
- Social skills board games group
These intervention groups have a prime focus to support children to take turns, share and effectively communicate with their peers. It provides time outside of the usual classroom environment to develop fundamental life skills and supports children to discuss their feelings and emotions in a nurturing, calm environment.
- Emotional-Based School Avoidance mentoring (EBSA)
EBSA is a mentoring programme which focuses on children’s anxiety surrounding school and the classroom environment.
- Brain break group
The brain break group helps children transition from home to the school environment to support their readiness to learn, focus and engagement within the classroom.
- Lunchtime club
This is a space where children can eat their lunch in a calm, quiet environment away from the lunch hall with an adult supervising. The lunchtime club remains open for those that find the playground environment overwhelming too.
